Not sure what the problem was, but it works now!!!

I have written a fink (http://fink.sourceforge.net/) package for it, It  
hasn't made it into the release yet. Once it does, fink users will be  
able to install soot by just doing:

  $ fink install soot

If you can't wait for it to make it into fink, you can grab the .info  
and .patch files from:

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/ 
index.php?func=detail&aid=744828&group_id=17203&atid=414256

and put them in /sw/fink/10.2/local/main/finkinfo/devl
