I belive you when you say so. So I guess the problem must be something
on my side. I've checked on another computer, on different architecture
(sparc) and here's what I saw (same as on my machine):

again - no these files in main directory.

BUT unpacking the files simply w/ tar, *not* using mc - shows that
indeed, all these files, including README and license.html are there!

Apparently #utar mc filter is currently slightly broken in Debian
unstable. Ugh... :-/
